讲座摘要:
Barker will deliver two lectures which explore aspects of his work in heritage preservation.
1.Engaging Communities through Cultural Heritage
The lecture examines how cultural heritage can serve as a powerful catalyst for community engagement, social cohesion and place‑based regeneration. Drawing on a series of case studies from across Great Britain, it will demonstrate how involving local people in the care, interpretation and reuse of heritage assets can generate wide‑ranging benefits — strengthening communities, revitalising neglected areas, and ensuring the long‑term sustainability of historic places. Particular attention will be given to models of participation that create multi‑layered value for society, heritage organisations and the individuals who take part. Ultimately leading to a better preserved heritage.
2.Aspects of an Unconventional Conservation
A look at why conventional approaches to preservation are often unquestioned and examines how alternative methods may prove to be a useful tool in cultural heritage conservation. This lecture was originally given at the International Jubilee Scientific Conference celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy (UACEG) in Sofia, Bulgaria in 2017.
